Coverbox...your most asked questions

Hopefully the information below will answer your questions. If you have any specific questions please get in contact

Q1.

How could my premium be adjusted during the year?

The coverbox that we install in your car that enables us to retrieve the vehicle if it is stolen also collects various information from the vehicle such as location, when and how its driven, and where its kept overnight. If any of the information that you provided us with at the point you purchased the policy regarding the number of miles you will drive, and if they are in peak, non peak or super peak hours or the location of the vehicle overnight is different to declared then we may adjust your premium. It could also be adjusted or the policy could be cancelled if the information we collect from the documents that you are required to provide us with at the point of installation is different to that declared at the point of purchase.

Q2.

How do you check what miles I actually do?

We install a Coverbox in your car, which also provides you with theft tracking so if your car is stolen we are able to track its location. The Coverbox sends us the mileage when you drive the car so we can check it against the mileage that you told us that thought you would do.

Q3.

What else will the coverbox check ?

We can check that the vehicle is kept overnight where you said it would be, the miles and times that you drive this may impact the premium during the year and will ensure that you are given a premium on renewal just for you based on how your car has been driven and no one elses!

Q4.

Do I have to pay for the coverbox that goes in my car?

No, we do.

Q5.

Could it make my car go wrong?

No, and it does not invalidate your manufacturers warranty. All our installers are trained professionals.

Q6.

What if I know I am going to do a lot more mileage than I forecast - for example my job changes and I have a lot of travel?

If you think that the additional mileage that may occur will take you over the forecast for the year then just give us a call and we can check it out for you.

Q7.

Where do you install the coverbox in the car?

We have trained professional installers who place the coverbox in the car, we don't publish where it is located for security reasons on the theft tracking

Q8.

Can I still have my No Claims Discount?

Yes.

Q9.

How will I be able to tell if my premium is going to change?

We provide you with your own web page where you can view your monthly mileage to date and other useful information from the vehicle that can help with petrol consumption. We only make changes to the premium on the basis of the mileage if the information you gave us at the time you purchased the policy is consistently different.

Q10.

What if I don't drive as many miles in the month as I thought I would do, will you change my direct debit or give me a refund?

The easiest way to think about your Coverbox policy is to compare it to a utility bill. At certain times of the year you will drive more miles than forecast and at other times less, just like you use more electric in the winter than in the summer. Unless your mileage is consistently higher or lower than your forecast your direct debit will remain the same and at renewal any debit will be collected from you or any credit refunded. Our policies may be subject to a minimum mileage or premium level so if you do less than 3000 miles you may see very little difference in your premium at the end of they year as a certain element of the premium is for protecting the vehicle when it is not being driven.

Q11.

I don't agree with the mileage that is showing on my personal portal 'dashboard' - what do I do?

Contact the Insurance Administrator who will investigate for you

Q12.

I am selling my car what do I do about the box?

You need to tell the new owner that the box is in place and when you contact the Administrator let them know the new owner details. If you would like to transfer your coverbox policy to another car then the Administrator will arrange this for you, a fee will be charged.

Q13.

What happens to my insurance costs if the box stops working?

The technology in the box allows us to fix it remotely in over 90% of cases, if that is not possible we will send a representative to identify the problem and fix it or replace the box. Whilst the box is not operating we will charge you a daily rate based on your forecasted mileage.

Q14.

Until my box is fitted what will be the cost of my insurance?

We charge you a daily rate, based on the forecast mileage that you gave us for the quote, until the box is fitted. Installation takes around 20-40 minutes and an appointment must take place within 10 days of the policy cooling off period ending.

Q15.

Why do you need to install a coverbox in my car ?

The coverbox that we install in your car enables us to retrieve the vehicle if it is stolen and it also collects various information from the vehicle such as location, when and how its driven, and where its kept overnight. If any of the information that you provided us with at the point you purchased the policy regarding the number of miles you will drive, and if they are in peak, non peak or super peak hours or the location of the vehicle overnight is different to declared then we may adjust your premium.

Q16.

How do you work out how much my Coverbox insurance for the year will cost if I haven’t driven the miles yet?

This is just the same as with standard motor insurance policies, you answer a set of questions that calculates an annual premium. With Coverbox there are two differences;

We also ask when you think those miles will be driven during the day/night
We are able to validate via our coverbox when and where you do drive, and where you keep the vehicle overnight and we can adjust your premium. That is why it is important to think about the miles you will drive and when you drive the most.

Q17.

If I don't drive my car for a couple of months will I not be charged anything?

Whilst part of your premium for the policy is calculated against the miles that you drive, it is subject to a minimum annual premium of £180 or / and 3000 miles minimum. The insurance is comprehensive, so even if you are not driving the car it will still be insured for theft and accidental damage as per the policy conditions.

Q18.

How does the theft tracking work?

If your car is stolen then you need to contact the police, obtain a crime reference number from them and advise them that your car is fitted with a tracking device. Contact the theft helpline number on your dashboard portal and give them your policy number and the crime reference number. They will then trace your vehicle and notify the police. you should also notify the claims helpline that the vehicle has been stolen.

Q19.

Who owns the coverbox?

We do, but you have our permission to have the box in your car.

Q20.

What are the peak, off peak and super peak times?

Two main categories of Driving Times:

- Peak Times (both Experienced and Young Drivers)

  • Mon to Fri 7:30am – 9:30am & 4:30pm to 6:00pm (excluding public holidays – see appendix)

- Off-Peak Times

  • Any time outside peak or super peak times.

If there is a driver on the policy under 23 years old then there is also ;

- Young Driver Super Peak Times

  • Fri, Sat, Sun night/mornings: 11:00pm to 5:00am
  • Night/morning of a Public Holidays: 11:00pm to 5:00am

With some of the policies off peak costs less than peak or super peak. Basically you tell us the miles that you will drive in the year (roughly) and then we make an assumption on the amount of hours you will do in rush hour and super peak (if applicable ) You can then amend those splits if you don’t think they are right. We then give you a forecasted insurance cost which you can control through the year. If you drive less than you forecast then your insurance cost will go down subject to a minimum premium or mileage and vice a versa.
